Cadac Carri Chef 2

The Cadac Carri Chef 2 BBQ is a high quality kettle style gas BBQ with a range of accessories available so that you can cook much more than just burgers and sausages!

We bought our Cadac just before Christmas and can honestly say that we have used it at least once a week, both at home and away camping, ever since. It is definitely the best portable cooker and BBQ I’ve ever used and I couldn’t be more pleased with it. The additional pans mean that we can cook just about anything we could cook at home while on the campsite or at the beach.

Key Features include:

  • Size – the Carri chef 2 has a 47cm diameter so it is big enough to cook a full meal for 4 hungry adults or 6 (perhaps more!) less greedy people!

  • Power – the large gas burner is powerful enough to cook quickly or bring a large pan of water to the boil in a reasonable time. The flame is also controllable enough to simmer food on the lowest setting.

  • Storage – as the legs unscrew and there is a carry bag the Cadac can be more easily stored than other kettle BBQs. It is however a large BBQ so even packed down you need to make sure you have enough room to transport it along with all your other camping gear.

Pans and Accessories

  • Pot Stand – the metal pot stand can support a typical camping kettle up to a large pan. We used an Outwell 2L whistling kettle on our Cadac as well as a 26” Le Creuset casserole.

  • Grill Pan – this is the ridged BBQ plate. There are drainage holes to allow fat to drain through into the pan below and the non-stick surface makes it very easy to clean.

  • Chef Pan – This a large shallow non-stick pan that is ideal for cooking a full breakfast! At 47cm it’s huge and we can easily cook 8 rashers of bacon plus 6 eggs. For me, the shallow sides make it a bit awkward for cooking stir fries etc.

  • Roasting Pan – This pan comes with its own pan support and a trivet to keep food raised slightly off the bottom of the pan. This has been the trickiest pan to get the hang of. The trivet only lifts the food slightly so you have to keep checking that food isn’t burning underneath. Looking for tips online though has given me a new idea so next time I’m going to use some small balls of aluminium foil to lift the trivet a bit more.

  • Paella pan – this is definitely my favourite pan! Again its 47cm so it’s big! It is non-stick and has much higher sides than the chef pan so it’s ideal for all sorts of dishes. I’ve used our one to cook paella (obvious choice given the name), curry, stir fries, chilli, etc and if we didn’t have the chef pan it would be equally good for cooking breakfasts.

  • Fabric Cover – we bought a cover for the Cadac which we used while camping as we kept it outside the tent.

  • Connector – we have a blue daisy wheel connector to attach the gas hose to the Cadac. You have to use the spanner supplied with the Cadac to attach the gas hose otherwise and the daisy wheel makes it much easier. There is also a quick release connector available if you prefer.

The only real downside if you are looking for a cooker/BBQ for camping is the size and weight of the Cadac and the additional pans. Because it is so well built it is heavy and although it packs down it is still a big BBQ to fit in along with all your other gear. If weight and packsize aren’t a deal breaker for you though then this is a great BBQ.

The Cadac Carri Chef 2 is brilliant! I wish we’d had one sooner. It is definitely well worth the money as it’s very well built, easy to use, easy to clean, and is so versatile.
